A new investigation by the CBA. Seven persons detained in connection with obtaining undue public subsidies

Under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office in Kraków, the officers of the Regional Office of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau in Kraków have been carrying out an investigation into irregularities in obtaining funds from public grants.

According to the investigators' findings, the entrepreneurs applied for subsidies to the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR) in Warsaw through a special fund. The investment mechanism combined public funds obtained from NCBiR with private capital contributed by the beneficiaries. Moreover, it was established that the president of the company managing the fund made payment of the subsidy dependent on obtaining financial gains.

In the course of the investigation, obtaining financial subvention from the Polish Development Fund S.A. in Warsaw has also been examined. The subsidy was addressed to entrepreneurs and depended on the number of employees. The evidence gathered in the case indicates that the applicants for the subsidy misled the PFR as to the number of people actually employed and obtained an undue subsidy of PLN 84,000.

On the grounds of the materials collected, seven persons were detained. The activities were carried out in Małopolska and Śląsk. The detainees include the presidents of the company acting as an intermediary in obtaining funds from the National Centre for Research and Development, presidents of companies acting as beneficiaries of the funds, and an accountant from one of the companies. Simultaneously, over a dozen locations were searched, including the offices of the economic entities involved in the illegal acquisition of public grants.

The District Prosecutor's Office in Kraków presented the detainees with corruption charges and charges of financial gain by obtaining an undue financial subsidy.

It is the first operation within this investigation.
