Municipality mayor and property valuer with charges

A local government official and a property valuer have been charged in connection with an investigation conducted by the officers of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau and the District Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk. he investigators' findings indicate that the damage to the assets of the Municipality of Stary Targ amounted to at least PLN 600 thousand.

The CBA Regional Office in Gdańsk, along with the District Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk, have been investigating irregularities related to a 2014 public procurement contract on the rehabilitation of a former gravel pit area in the municipality of Stary Targ with the possibility of aggregate exploitation. The investigators' findings indicate that the provisions of the contract were illegally amended twice, placing the company in a favourable position by allowing it to conduct mineral extraction over a longer period and from a larger area of land.
In the course of the ongoing activities, a thread concerning financial losses of the Municipality related to the remission of property tax in 2013-2016 is also being investigated.
The investigation was initiated in January 2019, as a result of a notice of suspicion of an offence submitted by the Control Proceedings Department of the CBA Regional Office in Gdańsk.
As a result of the activities, the prosecutor presented charges against the Mayor of the Municipality of Stary Targ in connection with his failure to fulfil his duties and exceeding his powers and against the property valuer in connection with an attestation of an untruth in a real estate appraisal report which gave the grounds to sell the real estate from the property of the Municipality of Stary Targ.
A total of five persons have a status of suspects in the investigation, including representatives of companies participating in the tender procedure and officials who are alleged to have caused damage to the property of the Municipality of Stary Targ for at least PLN 600,000.
