Funding extortion from ARMA (Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture). Two individuals detained

The CBA has detained two individuals who extorted over PLN 1 million of EU funding. The funds were paid out by the Małopolski Regional Office of the Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture.

The officers of the Regional Office of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau in Kraków have detained two managers of the defunct Beskids Group of Fruit and Vegetable Producers. The activities are connected with the investigation into obtaining funds, intended for financial support, from the Małopolski RO of the Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture by presenting unreliable financial documents.

The detainees - the president and a board member of the company - have been presented with a number of charges at the District Prosecutor's Office in Krakow. All evidence indicates that they cooperated to obtain a financial advantage by attesting an untruth in documents submitted to the ARMA. As a result of these activities, they received more than PLN 1 million in undue funding for the formation of the group and the conduct of administrative activities. Moreover, according to the investigators’ findings, on the basis of the untruthful documents, they attempted to extort over PLN 1.5 million in damages from an insurance company. Furthermore, the investigators' findings point to incorrect drawing up of tax returns and the issuing of VAT invoices, which did not reflect actual economic events, to mislead the tax authorities. The charges presented to the detainees cover the years 2010 - 2013.

The prosecutor has applied non-custodial preventive measures against the detainees.
