Head of a hospital department caught red-handed

A head of a department of one of the hospitals in Wielkopolska and six persons suspected of giving material benefits have been detained by the CBA.

The officers of the Regional Office of the CBA in Poznań have caught the head of a hospital department in Wielkopolska red-handed when accepting a bribe. On the same day, six persons suspected of giving material benefits to a doctor have been also detained.

The proceedings was initiated on grounds of materials collected by the CBA. Everything seems to indicate that the doctor, in exchange for bribes in the amount from 500 to 3000 zlotys, admitted patients to the hospital or extended their stay there.

After the searches, the detainees were transferred to the Terrain Division of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor's Office in Poznań, where they were charged with corruption.

The Central Anti-Corruption Bureau reminds that persons who were involved in corruption and gave a material benefit have a possibility to avail themselves of the so-called impunity clause, resulting from the Art. 229 § 6 of the Criminal Code.

Pursuant to the Criminal Code, the condition of avoiding criminal liability, if the material or personal benefit or its promise was accepted by a person performing public function, is a voluntary notification to the body responsible for the prosecution – in this case, the Regional Office of the CBA in Poznań or the relevant Prosecutor's Office. The perpetrator must notify about this fact before the authority learned about it and disclose all the relevant circumstances of the offense.
