Abuse of powers by public officials and disclosure of information - six people charged

Officers of the Regional Office of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau in Łódź, in cooperation with the Police Internal Affairs Bureau, detained 6 people. Among detainees are a policeman, an official and entrepreneurs. The investigation into this case is being conducted by the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Łódź.

A multi-pronged investigation

The proceedings concern acts related to the abuse of powers by public officials committed in 2020.

In the course of the conducted investigation, several threads were identified, including the abuse of powers by public officials and the disclosure of information by people who became familiar with it in connection with functions they performed.

Detentions and searches in the Łódź Voivodeship

Officers of the Regional Office of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau in Łódź and the Police Internal Affairs Bureau carried out procedural actions in the Łódź Voivodeship, under which the suspects' property was temporarily seized for a total amount of over PLN 80,000.

As a result of the search of the places of residence of the detainees, documentation and electronic data storage devices that could constitute evidence in the case were secured.

The detainees were charged

The detainees were taken to the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Łódź, where they faced charges. A police officer and an official of one of the municipal budget units were charged with exceeding their powers by disclosing certain information to unauthorized persons, while other suspects were charged with inciting to these crimes.

Non-custodial preventive measures were taken against five suspects, in the form of police supervision, combined with a a ban on contacting certain persons and a ban on leaving the country, while the Police officer was additionally suspended from performing his official duties.

These are the first procedural activities of this type in the ongoing proceedings, but the case is developing.
