Detained red-handed by CBA. Contract to be prolonged for bribe

Several businessmen wanted to bribe one of the managers of Zakłady Azotowe „Puławy” S.A. of Grupa Azoty. The CBA officers detained them just after they gave the bribe. The case pertained to a contract for over PLN 8 million.

The findings of the officers of the CBA Regional Office in Lublin indicated a possibility of corruption and an attempt to bribe a person responsible for health and safety conditions in the chemical plant.  The case pertained to a contract for over PLN 8 million. Zakłady Azotowe considered to terminate an agreement concluded with an external company in 2013.

Under the provisions of the agreement, another multi-million 4-year contract could be automatically prolonged, without launching a new tender. The external company’s Management Board attempted to bribe the person in charge of the procurement at Zakłady Azotowe “Puławy” in order to make money on the contract.

The case did not escape the CBA’s attention. The CBA officers from the Regional Office in Lublin detained the president and a Management Board member of the plant’s contractor just after giving PLN 8 thousand in cash in a hotel car park. The two persons were detained over allegations of bribery and economic corruption.

The District Prosecutor's Office in Lublin instituted investigation based on the evidence gathered by the CBA’s Regional Office in Lublin. In the course of securing the evidence, the Bureau’s officers cooperated with the representatives of the plant.
