$ 25 million for influence peddling

Officers of the Regional Office of the CBA in Lublin detained in Warsaw two businessmen - foreigners and a Polish entrepreneur. The case is related to the crime of corruption.

Men claiming to have influence  in government circles of one of African countries wanted to lead to a conclusion of a contract with a Polish company for the supply of agricultural machinery. The entire contract, amounting to the sum of 100 million US dollars, was financed by the Polish State Treasury in the framework of international agreements and aid programs for Africa. The tender for the pro-development deliveries and choosing of a contractor is announced by the government of the African country.

Foreigners detained by the CBA wanted to ensure the Polish company favorable decisions during the selection of the winning tender in exchange for the transfer of $ 25 million to them. A large part of the amount was to be spent on bribes for African officials. Ongoing activities aiming at clarification of the role the Polish entrepreneur are carried out.

The case is entirely conducted and was disclosed by the Central Anticorruption Bureau. Investigative activities are ongoing. Materials were handed over to the prosecutor's office.
